This June saw our netball ladies head to the annual Bangkok tournament. Three teams plus support headed to Bangkok for the Southerner’s international where our teams not only held their own but thrived.

Each year the Bangkok tour presents a great opportunity for Pirates ladies to play against teams from all over Asia. In all honesty, and I’m sure my netballers-of-old would agree, we usually get thrashed! But this year I’m pleased to report was different. All three teams scored more goals than we’ve seen in prior years, with the DBP Gin Swiggers going on to the cup semi-finals against the Thai national team. Our very own Pirates took them to extra time!! Unfortunately the result went against us but everyone watching agreed it was the best match of the whole tournament.

A great time was had by all, a special thanks to Sam M for her never ending support- from organising our schedules to upgrading the famous ‘Sam’s Gin Bar’, now complete with sign and flashing glasses. Thanks also to all those who captained and umpired- Sherryn Hancock deserves a special mention for umpiring the grand final as does Alex V for coordinating the umpiring across the entire tournament.

One final thanks to Heather & Rachel for arranging our very creative fancy dress for the after party.
