Youth rugby caters for U13 (that is 12 years old at the start of the season) to U19 (that is those who are 16 to 18 years old at the start of the season).
It has four age groups: U13 (those who are 12 years old at the start of the season); U14s (generally players who are 13 years old at the start of the season); U16s (those who are 14 or 15 years old at the start of the season) and U19s (those who are 16 to 18 years old at the start of the season).
The aim of youth rugby is to develop the potential of the players to their full. Although there are leagues (generally divisions 1-3) the over all aim is to ensure that players enjoy their rugby and develop at their own pace so that when they emerge from the youth ranks they are ready to play senior rugby.
DB Pirates have an excellent track record of developing players. For the 2015-16 season no less than 7 Pirates were selected for the U19/20 age groups to represent Hong Kong. As a percentage of the squad no other HK team matched this achievement. A number of players also played top tier senior rugby in the HK Premiership as well as in the second tier senior league: the Premiership A league.
Other age groups have also produced more than their fair share of national age grade (NAG) players that has made the DB Pirates youth section one of the most successful in Hong Kong during the past several years.
In addition, those players not selected for NAG representation during last season continued to develop their skill sets under the watchful eye and guidance of DB Pirates’ professional coaches.
So if you are a returning player or looking to try the greatest game in the world for the first time and are aged between 12 and 18 years old, DB Pirates is the right club for you. Join now and enjoy the season.
