The Discovery Bay Pirates, U12 girls win the 2024/25 Kim Lam Cup!

The Kim Lam Cup is a prestigious rugby trophy in Hong Kong awarded to the top Under-12 girls’ team, and named after Kim Lam, a key figure in youth rugby development. This weekend, March 23, 2025, the DB Pirates won it for the third time, triumphing in the season’s final knockout stage at the Hong Kong Football Club, showcasing their dominance in the U12 Girls’ League.
Game 1: Dominance Against Sai Kung Stingrays
The Discovery Bay Pirates kicked off the tournament with an impressive performance, dominating the Sai Kung Stingrays with a score of 4 to 1. Emily C. showcased her amazing legs, making significant runs that kept the opposition on the back foot. Celestine played well, contributing to the team’s energy and sharing the ball effectively with her teammates. Ada also contributed with some great passes, facilitating key plays that led to the team’s victory.
Game 2: Strong Team Efforts
In the second game, the Pirates continued their strong performance. Skye excelled with her excellent passing, creating opportunities for her teammates. Mia made a great run to score the Pirates’ second try, demonstrating her speed and agility. Emily W. also stepped up, sharing the ball and making strategic passes that enhanced the team’s flow. Alyssa played a vital role in teamwork and communication, ensuring everyone was involved and connected on the field. Defensively, Olivia stopped a final try attempt from SSP, ensuring the game ended in a draw.
Game 3: A Close Encounter
The Pirates faced a tough challenge in their third match against Sham Shui Po Sharpeis, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Skye delivered a fantastic try, sprinting from deep in the field to score. Sammy made an incredible kick that even caught the attention of the referee. Eva played well, showing great awareness on the field and sharing the ball effectively to keep the play dynamic. The Pirates fought hard, showcasing their determination throughout the match.
Game 4: Brilliant Plays and Strong Defense
In the fourth game, the Pirates demonstrated brilliant teamwork. Kaya executed quick passing to assist Sam in scoring a try. Alyssa pushed toward the try line, followed by a pass to Olivia, leading to another try from Sam. Celestine and Mia contributed excellently, sharing the ball and connecting well with their teammates. Skye scored a remarkable third try from the halfway line, showcasing her skills. The Pirates’ defence was solid, with Ada making a crucial tackle to stop the play. The ball was quickly passed out to Lila, leading to fast-paced action from Dior, securing a 3 to 2 victory against the Tigers.
Finals: Champions!
The Pirates entered the finals with confidence and determination, emerging as tournament winners! Their hard work and teamwork throughout the matches paid off, and they celebrated a well-deserved victory.
