On Saturday 1 March 2025 the DB Pirates 1st XV play RB-SRK Tin Shui Wai RFC 2 in the GRAND FINAL!

Our history with the Pandas has been a rollercoaster leading up to this Grand Final showdown. We first met them in Round 4, where we came out firing and secured a convincing 29-7 victory. It was a statement win early in the season, showcasing our ability to dominate when we’re on form.

But the Pandas got their revenge in Round 9, flipping the script and handing us a 7-16 defeat. That loss stung, exposing some cracks we needed to address, and it proved they’re a side that can adapt and punish.

Then, in Round 14, we bounced back emphatically with a 19-0 shutout, reasserting our edge heading into the Semi Finals with momentum.

Looking at the playoff standings, it’s no surprise we’re meeting again in the Grand Final. They finished 4th with 36 points, racking up 277 points scored and conceding 250 for a points difference of 27—a solid season that shows their resilience.

We edged them out for 3rd, also on 36 points, but with a sharper attack and defense: 287 points scored, 204 conceded, and a points difference of 83, second only to the table-topping SCAA CWB Marines.

Our head-to-head record this season—two wins to their one—gives us a psychological boost, but their ability to upset us in round 9 means we can’t take anything for granted.

This final’s shaping up to be a proper battle, and we’ll be bringing our A-game to lift that trophy.

Match Day 25

The DB Pirates 1st XV have named a strong 25-player squad for the 2025 grand final, blending experience and skill. With powerful forwards and agile backs, this tight-knit team is primed to execute their strategy and claim victory, leaving a lasting mark on the club’s legacy.

Results

The Grand Final showdown between the DB Pirates 1st XV and  RB-SRK Tin Shui Wai RFC 2, affectionately known as the Pandas, kicked off with a blistering start for the defending side.

Within the first 12 minutes, the Pandas capitalized on an early penalty to slot 3 points, swiftly followed by a converted try that left the Pirates reeling at 10-0.

The Pandas’ precision and aggression set a challenging tone, putting the Pirates’ 25-man squad on the back foot as they struggled to find their rhythm against a well-drilled opposition.

The tide began to turn late in the first half when Eric, seizing a moment of opportunity, took a quick tap penalty and powered over the line to put the Pirates on the board, narrowing the score to 10-5 at the break.

Fired up during the halftime talk, the Pirates emerged with renewed vigor, banking a penalty within the first five minutes of the second half to close the gap to 10-8.

From there, it was all Pirates that led a relentless onslaught, dominating possession and territory. The Pandas couldn’t respond as the Pirates piled on the points, finishing the game with a commanding 21-10 victory, showcasing their resilience and depth to claim the 2025 Grand Final crown.
